ETMC computes the leading-order hadronic-vacuum-polarization contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment in isospin-symmetric lattice QCD with N_f = 2+1+1 Wilson-clover twisted-mass quarks at four lattice spacings (a ≃ 0.049–0.079 fm, volumes up to L ≃ 7.7 fm), then extrapolates to the continuum. They get a_μ^HVP = 720.0(6.9)e-10 in the FLAG isospin-symmetric convention and 714.8(7.4)e-10 in the WP25 convention; adding a small isospin-breaking correction of 0.1(3.4)e-10 gives a full a_μ^HVP = 714.9(8.1)e-10, about 1.1% relative uncertainty. The authors state the resulting Standard Model prediction is fully consistent with the latest Fermilab Muon g-2 measurement and that the lattice result strengthens the tension with data-driven dispersive determinations that predate CMD-3.
The g-2 question has moved from "does the SM prediction miss the measurement" to "which HVP determination is right": lattice results keep landing near the measured value while e+e- → hadrons dispersive inputs sit lower, and the CMD-3 π+π- cross section already pulled that side up. Another lattice number with a ~1% error agreeing with its peers makes a lattice-side error less likely, but it does not explain why the older cross-section data disagree; that needs the experiments to be reconciled. It is a single-collaboration preprint with no independent scrutiny yet, so it adds weight rather than a step.

Piano takes today: three days since it was last assigned, the longest gap of the three, and both horns were assigned in the last two days. After a comping session, this one moves to modal harmony: maiden_voyage https://brona90.github.io/twelve-keys/maiden_voyage.html from the twelve-keys library, in E-flat. The goal is to make slow-moving sus-type harmony sound open and unhurried instead of static, with the voicings changing hands smoothly from one chord to the next.
5 minutes: E-flat major scale, two octaves, hands together at quarter = 72, mp, then the E-flat Dorian and Lydian scales at the same tempo, listening for the one note that differs. Loose wrists, no accents.
The exercise's voicings in E-flat, hands together, moving from chord to chord without a gap or a lurch. Play at quarter = 60, then 72, then 84. Success criterion: three consecutive clean run-throughs at each tempo, every chord sounding together and the sustain unbroken between changes.
Play the progression once as a slow ballad, letting each chord ring its full length, and once with a simple melody over the top in the right hand. Shape each phrase so it breathes, rather than counting the bars.
About 40 minutes. Stop when the voicings start to blur or the forearms tighten, even if 84 is not reached. Finish with one relaxed pass at quarter = 60.

The composer playing his own tune. Listen to the piano chords underneath the solos: each one is left to ring while the harmony barely moves, so the rhythm section sets a mood instead of pushing. That patience, a voicing placed and then trusted, is what today's slow tempos are for.
